Spread them out on the table or floor and see which ones your preschoolers can identify by sight before you tell them the names of each animal. This is a good way to gauge what they already know before diving in.
Once you’ve allowed them to show what they know, introduce them to the rest of the animals.
Print two sets of cards. Turn them facedown on a flat surface. Have kids take turns flipping over two cards. If they match, they get to keep the set and go again. If not, their turn ends. Continue play until all cards have been matched.
Older preschoolers can use these cards to practice ABC order. Choose two or three cards each starting with a different letter. Have them put them in ABC order using an alphabet chart, if necessary.
Call out a letter sound, and have your child find a card that starts with that sound. Or, you pick a card and have them tell you the beginning sound.
