Tips for Using These Construction Printables
These construction activities require very little prep. Print the pages you want to use and gather crayons or markers, pencils, child-safe scissors, and glue.
For younger preschoolers, choose activities based on the skills they are ready to practice. The shadow matching, coloring, and maze pages require less cutting, while the pattern activity gives children extra practice using scissors and glue.
You can also use the pages individually instead of completing the entire pack at once. Add one to a preschool learning center, use a tracing page for morning work, or choose an activity to go along with a construction-themed book.
If you plan to reuse a page, place it in a dry-erase pocket or laminate it and let children complete it with a dry-erase marker.
Fine Motor Skills Practiced with These Printables
Several activities in this construction printable pack give preschoolers opportunities to practice fine motor skills. The cement mixer and excavator pages provide tracing and coloring practice, while the pattern activity includes cutting and pasting.
Children also use crayons or markers for the color-by-number activity and pencil control as they work through the construction maze. These different tasks give preschoolers practice using common classroom tools while completing the construction-themed activities.
Extend the Learning
Use these printables as a starting point for more construction-themed learning and play. Pair them with a few simple activities that let preschoolers explore the same theme in different ways.
- Build with blocks: Provide wooden blocks or building bricks and invite children to design a house, road, bridge, or construction site.
- Set up a construction sensory bin: Add toy construction vehicles to a bin with a suitable sensory material for scooping, digging, and hauling.
- Read construction books: Pair the worksheets with picture books about construction vehicles, tools, workers, and building.
- Practice construction vocabulary: Talk about words children see or hear during the theme, such as excavator, cement mixer, toolbox, and construction worker.
- Go on a construction-site search: Look for construction vehicles and equipment while taking a walk or driving around your community. Talk about what each machine is doing.
Construction Books for Preschoolers
Pair these construction printables with a picture book for an easy construction-themed preschool lesson. These books feature construction vehicles, building sites, and hardworking crews that fit well with the activities in this printable pack.
