Candy Cane Christmas Ornament Craft
Twisting the pipe cleaners is a great way for preschoolers to strengthen fine motor skills. Because this ornament is so easy to make, kids can make quite a few in just a short time.
What You’ll Need
- 2 red 12-inch pipe cleaners
- 2 white 12-inch pipe cleaners
- ¼” wide green ribbon
- scissors
- twine or ribbon for a hanger
What You’ll Do
Bunch the two same-color pipe cleaners into an even stack and fold them all in half.
Twist the two doubled over white pipe cleaners together from one end all the way to the other end so it looks like one 6” pipe cleaner.
Repeat step 2 with the red pipe cleaner.
Then, twist the red and white pieces together as well, trying to twist them tightly and evenly. Twist ends together tightly so the pieces don’t untwist.
Bend into a candy cane shape.
Cut a 12” piece of your green ribbon and tie it around your candy cane in a bow. Trim the edges as desired.
Take an 8” piece of hemp cord, double it over and tie the loose ends into a knot.
Attach your hemp cord loop to the top/middle of your pipe cleaner candy cane and hang it for all to see!
