What is subitizing?

Subitizing is the ability to recognize the number of objects in a group without needing to count them. It is an important early math skill that children can learn in preschool.

For example, if you show a child a group of three dots arranged on a die, they should be able to recognize that there are three dots without needing to count them.

Subitizing is a quick and efficient way to recognize the number of objects in a group without having to go through the process of counting each one individually.
