Preparing the Worksheets

To get started, gather the materials you’ll need to prepare the activity. I suggest the following:

  • printer
  • printer paper
  • scissors
  • glue sticks
  • pencils
  • crayons

Now that you have all of your supplies, let’s get started with the prepwork.

  • First, scroll to the very bottom of this post and request the file.
  • Save the file to your computer.
  • Open and print the worksheets making as many copies as you need for your students.

That’s it! Now, you’re all set to use this activity with your preschoolers.

Completing the Activities

To begin the lesson, explain to your students the concept of transportation. Ask them questions like, “What do we use to get from one place to another?” and “What are common modes of transportation?” Encourage them to offer possible answers such as airplanes, trains, cars, and buses.

Next, hand out the worksheets and have your students complete them. They can color in the pictures on the coloring pages, match different modes of transportation with their names on the matching game sheets, or complete a fun word search featuring transportation words!

Once they’ve completed all of the activities, have your students discuss their answers and talk about the different modes of transportation they’ve explored.

Finally, wrap up the lesson by quizzing them on what they’ve learned. Ask questions like “What is a common mode of land transportation?” or “What type of vehicle do we use to fly in the sky?”

By introducing preschoolers to transportation with these fun printables, they can gain a better understanding of how different modes of transport work while having fun!

I love Laurie Berkner’s songs! She’s got songs for all different themes and occasions. This airplane song will have your kids moving – fast and slow – around the room. It’s perfect for a transportation themed unit!
