Ocean Colors Playdough Mats

I suggest printing these playdough mats on cardstock for durability. You can then laminate them or slip them in a dry erase pouch. This will allow you to reuse the playdough mats all year long.

To Use the Mats

Discuss the colors and color words with your child. Talk about the letters in each word. Have your child name other objects that are the same color.

Give your child the corresponding colors of playdough: yellow, purple, green, red, orange, blue, brown, black, grey, and pink.

Using the playdough mats as a guide, show your child how to spell the color words with playdough.

Variations

If you don’t want to use playdough for this activity, your child can color in or trace the letters with dry erase markers.

Use the individual color word mats as sorting cards. Have your child find three objects for each color and match them to the correct mat.

Focus on beginning sounds. Have your children name the sound each color word begins with. Can your child find another object in the room that begins with the same sound?
