Encouraging Independence in Preschoolers

Our littlest ones are capable of so much more than we think they are. These tips will help with encouraging independence in preschoolers.

Even our littlest ones are capable of so much more than we think they are. And, more than that, they want to help us out.

It makes them feel big. It helps build their self-confidence when they think they are being big helpers.

Even a child as young as two can pitch in with household chores.

Give them jobs to do around the house.

Teach your little ones how to do the jobs you give them.

Teach them how to work.

You can’t expect perfection if your little ones are going to pitch in.

Lower your expectations.

Let them know how much they’ve helped you out. Tell them what “big” kids they are. Praise them for a job well done.

Praise them generously.
