Yarn Wrapped Trees Preschool Christmas Craft

I love decorating my home with kid-made decorations. I can’t wait until my grandson (9 months) is old enough to participate in Christmas activities with his Mimi.

Yarn Wrapped Trees
This yarn-wrapped tree is a wonderful preschool Christmas craft. Preschoolers get to express their creativity while talking about colors and working on fine motor skills.
Make one, or make a whole forest, and decorate your home for the holidays with some super cute yarn-wrapped trees.

What You’ll Do
Select a sheet of cardstock for your Christmas tree. I prefer green just in case there are any gaps in the yarn as I wrap the cone.
Trace the pattern from the template, and cut it out. Download your template here.
Leaving the curvy end intact, roll the straight ends to make a cone with your cardstock.
Place the cone on a flat surface, and cover it with glue. I prefer to use a paint brush or sponge brush for this step. It makes it easier to completely cover the cone with glue.
Choose a length of yarn for your tree. I chose green, but your kids can get creative and use whatever you have on hand.
Start to wrap the cone from the top to the bottom. Simply wrap and gently press the yarn onto the cone to make sure it sticks as you move down the cone.
Keep wrapping the yarn down the cone until you reach the bottom.
When you’re done wrapping the cone, cut off the extra yarn. Apply a small amount of glue to the end of the yarn, and secure it to the bottom of the cone.
As the glue dries on your cone tree, paint a handful of styrofoam balls. While I used styrofoam balls on my tree, but you could also use store-bought pompoms. If you use styrofoam balls, cut them in half so they’ll stick better to your yarn-wrapped tree.
Apply small drops of glue on the cone where you’d like to add the pompoms or styrofoam balls. If using styrofoam, place the unpainted flat side of the ball to the tree.
Use the template to cut out some stars. Once your yarn wrapped tree is completely dry, glue a star cutout to the top of the tree.
