These playdough mats work well as quiet time activities, as well. Next time you head to a restaurant or doctor’s office, bring along a few playdough mats and cans of playdough to keep your kids entertained.

Printable Summer Activities

The best thing about these free preschool printables is that they double as an educational activity. Your kids will have so much fun, they won’t even realize they’re learning.

Not only is this summer printable pack easy to prepare, but it will help your kids build hand strength while working on basic literacy skills.

To start, print the playdough mats on cardstock. I recommend laminating them for durability to make these summer playdough mats reusable.

Have your kids shape dough to make the pictures featured on each card. Have kids roll the playdough into balls or ropes to fit into each shape.

In this pack, you’ll find mats featuring ice cream, lemonade, popsicle, sand castle, watermelon, and more.

Once kids have created the playdough shape, talk about the sentence on each mat. For instance, I is for ice cream. Focus on the beginning sound of each featured image.

Then, your preschoolers can use playdough to form the beginning letter of each word. Or, they can use a dry erase marker to write it.

Variations

I’ve got a great idea if you want to add this to your no-mess summer activities for preschoolers. Let your little ones use wiki stix to make these summer shapes. Wiki stix are not messy at all, but they’ll stick to the laminated playdough mats.
