Show your preschoolers the ladybug color cards. Ask them to name the color on each card. If your child is ready, point out the color word and the letters that spell each word.

Instruct your preschoolers to cover each spot on the ladybug with a pom pom, button, or bead the same color as the ladybug.

For extra fine motor practice, kids can use tongs to pick up the objects to place on the ladybug.

What else can kids learn from this activity?

* Color recognition – Spread out the ladybug cards. Name a color and have your child find the correct ladybug.

* Color words – Point out the color word on each card. Can your child name the letters that spell each color word?

* Fine motor skills – As kids use their pincer grasp to pick up the pom poms or beads, they’ll strengthen the small muscles in their fingers.

* Hand-eye coordination – Kids will strengthen hand-eye coordination as they line up each pom pom or bead with the dots on the ladybugs.
