Simply Adorable Snowman Paper Plate Craft for Kids

This snowman paper plate craft is easy to make and absolutely adorable! Add this winter craft to your snowman activities for preschool.

Here’s a great preschool winter activity! It’s really cute when it’s assembled. And, it works well in both classroom and home settings.

Kids will work on fine motor skills and counting as they assemble their adorable snowmen.

Older preschoolers and kindergarteners can likely do this craft on their own. Younger preschoolers will likely need your help prepping this craft.

Snowman Paper Plate Craft

With just a few craft supplies, you and your kids will be ready to assemble these paper plate snowmen in no time!

What You’ll Need

small white paper plates
yarn (any color)
orange and brown craft foam
yellow felt
black pipe cleaner
2 large blue pom poms
2 large googly eyes
snowflake stickers or confetti
hole punch
craft glue

What You’ll Do

With the hole punch, punch about 22 holes around the edge of each paper plate. This is a great way for preschoolers to build hand strength.

If, however, your preschoolers aren’t ready for this task, mom or teacher can do it ahead of time.

Choose a length of yarn (any color). Tie a knot in the back of one of the holes.

Thread the holes by coming up through one hole and down through the next.

Repeat until you get to the last hole, and tie the end into a knot.

This is another task that is a great skill builder for preschoolers. Kids will build fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they lace their paper plates.

Now, cut the yellow felt into a long rectangle (mine was 11 inches), and cut little slits at both ends like fringe. If you don’t have felt, you can use a fabric scrap.

Cut two rectangle arms out of the brown foam, and snip the ends to make little branches. Then, cut a carrot shape out of the orange foam for the nose. If you don’t have foam, you can use construction paper.

Connect both plates together by either stapling the middle sections together or threading another piece of yarn through two holes on each plate and tie in the back.

Next, glue on the eyes, nose, and snowflakes for the mouth. Here, you can have kids count out the snowflakes as they stick them on.

Take the black pipe cleaner and glue it to the top of the plate. Continue to bend and glue until you have a headband shape.

Glue on the two blue pom poms, one on each side, to represent the earmuffs. Glue on the scarf, arms, and three buttons on the bottom plate.
