What is story sequencing?

When telling a story, it’s important to put the events in the right order. That way, the listener will be able to follow along and understand what’s going on.

There are different ways to sequence a story, but one of the most common is to start at the beginning and move chronologically through the events.

This means that you’ll start with the very first event and then describe what happened next, and so on.

Worksheets, like the ones presented in this post, are perfect for teaching children how to do this.

Story sequencing is perfect for building important early learning skills with your preschool and kindergarten kiddos.

These story sequencing printables will help young learners practice ordering the sequence of events while building reading comprehension skills.

What skills are taught?

In this two-page sequencing pack, you’ll find an activity that will help your students sequence the story after reading through it.

They’ll also strengthen fine motor skills as they cut and paste the sequencing discs onto the sequencing mat.

What’s included?

This two page pack includes everything your child needs to sequence the story. You’ll find a one-page sequencing mat with eight places for your student to place a story sequencing disc. There is also one page containing eight sequencing discs.

PREPARING THE PRINTABLE

If you’d like this to be a one-off activity, print both pages on standard printer paper and have kids cut and paste the discs onto the mat.

To make this reusable, print the pages on cardstock and laminate them for durability. Put a velcro dot on each circle and on the back of each disc.

USING THE SEQUENCING ACTIVITY

If you choose to use the activity as seat work, kids can sequence the story as you read it aloud or share the video above.

When complete, have the children retell the story aloud to a friend or family member. This is a great way to assess their comprehension skills.
