This hot chocolate winter craft for preschoolers is a great way to warm up a long cold winter afternoon. It’s perfect for your preschool winter activities.
There is nothing better than settling in with a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. My kids always love hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows and a peppermint stick to stir it all together.
This winter preschool craft will look good on display this winter season. You can even make multiples and string them together for a fun winter garland.

If you are working with toddlers, you can precut all of the pieces for the hot chocolate mug craft. Preschoolers, on the other hand, can practice their scissor skills by cutting the pieces out on their own.
Hot Chocolate Winter Craft for Preschoolers
Do you make your hot chocolate from scratch or pour it out of a pouch? I’ve tried both, but nothing beats the simplicity of ripping open a pouch and pouring it in the mug. Add water, and you’re all set!
Your preschoolers will have a blast adding “marshmallows” to their hot chocolate. Then, with white crayons and winter stickers, they’ll personalize their hot chocolate mugs.
What You’ll Need
Hot Chocolate Craft Template (see below)
Colored cardstock or construction paper
Decorations: stickers, markers, white crayon, etc.
Glue
Scissors
What You’ll Do
Begin by printing the hot chocolate craft template. <<Click there to print it out. Now, cut out the pieces.
Trace one of the squares on a brown sheet of construction paper – this will be the hot chocolate. Cut it out. Trace the other two squares on any color of construction paper – this will be your mug.

Cut a rounded “U” shape from one of the colored squares of construction paper. This will be the “front” of your cup.
Use the handle template to form a handle. You may have enough from the U cut out to form the handle, depending how big you cut. If not, use another piece of the same colored construction paper.

Glue the handle to the side of the whole square of colored paper.
Also, cut about ½” strip from the brown paper.
Glue the brown cardstock to the whole square of colored paper, over the handle, with the bottom aligned so that the top is slightly lower than the colored paper.
Now, glue the U shaped piece of colored paper over the other squares.

Decorate the front of your cup however you’d like. We used white markers and stickers, but you could use regular markers, sequins, gems, etc.
Finally, round some cotton balls in your hand and glue in the cup. Because every cup of hot chocolate needs marshmallows. Enjoy!
