Dinosaur Tracks

Making dinosaur tracks is so much fun for dinosaur fans! It’s also a great way to work on patterns and color mixing with preschoolers.

If you’re looking for a fun, albeit messy, activity that your dinosaur-loving toddlers and preschoolers will love, you’ve come to the right place! Add this to your dinosaur activities for preschool.

Here’s a fun dinosaur painting activity that is a lot of fun for toddlers and preschoolers to create. There is no right or wrong way to complete this art project.

Dinosaur Tracks

Not only is this preschool process art project simple to set up, it’s just as easy to little ones to complete. I do, however, suggest using this activity in a small group or independent learning environment to control the mess.

Dinosaurs are what I call an “evergreen” theme. This means you can teach this theme any time of year.

You might choose to teach dinosaurs within their own separate unit, or you might add dinosaurs to your Letter Dd activities.

You can’t go wrong either way!

What You’ll Need

What You’ll Do

First, introduce your dinosaur figures. See if there are any your child can name. Then, teach the names of the rest of the figures in your set.

Next, pour your desired amount of paint onto a paper plate. You can use as many colors as you’d like to complete this project.

Place the dinosaur feet into the paint.

Press the painted dinosaur feet down onto the white construction paper and paint “dinosaur” tracks using different colors of paint.

Repeat this process the desired amount of times, using different colors and dinosaurs.

Set aside painting to dry.

Additional fun

Allow your children to wash the dinosaurs in a sensory bin filled with soap and water with a toothbrush or sponge.

Talk about color mixing. What happened when your child mixed red and blue or blue and yellow? What happened when they mixed all the colors?

Sort the dinosaurs by height, color, or number of feet.
