Teaching the butterfly life cycle is so much fun in the spring and summer months. This spinning top is a great way to review the stages.
I’ve shared quite a few resources to help you teach the life cycle of a butterfly. Once your kids are proficient with the different stages of the life cycle, you can use this spinning top as a fun review tool.

Add this free preschool printable to your upcoming B is for Butterfly, life cycle, or general spring-themed preschool lessons.
Butterfly Life Cycle
This activity takes a little bit of advanced prep work, but it makes a great addition to your learning centers.
To prep the activity, just print, cut, and assemble the top. You can print it on white paper and have kids color the images before cutting and assembling the top. Or, you can print it on colored printer paper and skip the coloring.

Using the Life Cycle Paper Top
Once the kids have colored the top and cut it out, they will need your help folding and gluing the top according to the instructions on the page.

Once the top is assembled, there are a few ways you can use it to review and reinforce the life cycle of a butterfly.
Have children spin the top and name the stage that’s on top. Can they remember where in the sequence that stage falls?
Pair the top with one of the other sequencing tools in my life cycle of a butterfly unit study.
Have kids point out the same stage on the butterfly life cycle diagram.
They can put the sequencing cards in order as they spin the top.
However you choose to use this resource, it’s a great addition to your life cycle activities for the spring.
