A Turkey for Thanksgiving Worksheets

This pack of book-based worksheets is perfect for your Thanksgiving lesson plans. There are five activities which include:

Trace the Lines

Children will strengthen motor skills and pencil control as they trace a path from Mr. Moose to Mrs. Moose. They can then color Mr. and Mrs. Moose, of they’d like.

Big or Small

Children will follow the color code to color the turkeys according to their size – big or small. This is a great way to practice reading color words while working on visual discrimination skills.

Matching

Children will draw a line to connect the matching animals. They can then color the animals, if they’d like.

Design a Sign

When Mr. Moose finds Turkey, he sees a “do not disturb” sign and a “no turkey here” sign.

Encourage your preschoolers to design a sign of their own. They can draw a picture, or they can dictate a message for you to write on the sign for them.

Sight Word Hunt

The final activity in this printable features nine beginning sight words from the story. Print and laminate the sight words cards. Cut the cards apart and hide them around the room.

Send your children on their own turkey hunt. As they find a turkey card, have them read the sight word to you.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to teach your little ones about the history and traditions of the holiday. And what better way to do that than with a fun, turkey-themed book?

Here are a few of our favorites:

How to Catch a Turkey by Adam Wallace is a cute story! A turkey is running loose in a school right before a Thanksgiving play. Can YOU help catch it so the show can go on? Follow along as students turn their school upside down trying to catch the turkey, ending with a twist that ensures no turkeys are harmed (or eaten!).

Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano is a hilarious book about a turkey who doesn’t want to be eaten for Thanksgiving. He tries all sorts of disguises, but will anything work?

A Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman is sure to get a giggle from your little ones. When the people of Squawk Valley find themselves without a turkey for their Thanksgiving feast, they hatch a plot to lure one into town: They’ll advertise for a “model” turkey to pose during a turkey-themed arts-and-crafts fair. Once the model is finished posing, he’ll make the perfect main course for the Squawk Valley Thanksgiving feast. But the citizens of Squawk Valley don’t plan on meeting up with a turkey as sly as Pete―a bird so clever, he just may outsmart them all!

These books are sure to get your little ones in the Thanksgiving spirit while also providing some valuable lessons.

So grab one (or all!) and enjoy some quality reading time together.
