Let’s Play Two Truths and a Lie

The rules of the game is very simple. You begin by telling two truths and a lie. The other player(s) need to figure out what’s the lie. Two Truths and a Lie is a magnificent educational game to play with your kids.

Practice Letters, Numbers, & Phonics

Quiz your preschoolers on letters and see if they can identify the one that’s not a letter. For instance you can begin by saying A, B, and Bird are letters of the alphabet. Will your preschooler figure out that bird isn’t a letter?

Do the same thing with the numbers before mixing up letters and numbers. Tell your child that 3, 4, and m are all numbers. How quickly will your kid remember that m is a letter?

Once your child has moved on to learning letter sounds, start using letter sounds. A says /a/, C says /k/, and S says /t/. Your preschooler will feel so smart when they’re able to figure out all of your ‘lies’!

Build Observation Skills

Don’t stick to educational truths and lies. Start looking outside the car. Tell your child you see a black bird, a telephone pole, and a dragon in the sky.

Begin by giving obvious truths and lies before you move on to more subtle statements such as, “I see a deer, a tumbleweed, and a skyscraper on the prairie.”

Use the game Two Truths and a Lie to teach your child to study the landscape around the car. They should note the features in the distance, people on the sidewalk, and buildings along the road.

Have Fun

Most importantly have fun with the game. Quiz your child on the names of cousins, aunts, and uncles. Use the game to familiarize kids with stories, fairy tales, and historical events.

Let your child quiz you on subjects they’re fascinated about. You’ll find yourself learning facts about animals, fairy tales, and computer games you never knew. And your little preschooler will love trying to stump you.

Trips in the car don’t need to be mind numbing dull, nor do you need to turn on electronics in order to keep the kids happy. Verbal games such as Two Truths and a Lie are perfect for long hours on the road.
