Bedtime stories are a delightful end of the day ritual for preschoolers. They give a pleasant closure to the day.

Kids get a few minutes of hugs, cuddles, and time with mommy or daddy. They listen to a story before saying Good Night.

Over the years, we’ve found a few favorite bedtime stories that the whole family enjoys. These timeless stories help set the tone for a good night’s sleep.

It’s Time for Bed is one of my all time favorites for toddlers and preschoolers. Night time is falling across the world in the book, and animals everywhere are getting ready to go to sleep. The children see lambs, mice, snakes, bees, and other creatures tucking their babies in for the night.

The calm pictures with the gentle meter sets the mood for a good night’s sleep.

Goodnight Moon is another well-loved classic. A little rabbit doesn’t want to go to sleep quite yet. Instead of snuggling into his covers, he’s following the time-honored childhood custom of saying goodnight to anything and everything including the moon. The book follows our little bunny saying good night to everything he sees in his bedroom.

Have you had a child do that? I certainly have!

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight is a delightful book to teach children how to go to bed. The dinosaurs in the story first try throwing fits, screaming, and crying when told it’s bedtime. After a time the dinosaurs walk the children through exactly how a dinosaur, or child, should say good night.

Each of the pictures show a different type of dinosaur in the  bedroom. If you look closely you can even find the type of dinosaur shown written somewhere in the picture. My personal favorite is the triceratops.

Bedtime stories are a marvelous ritual for preschoolers. They enjoy the time to settle into bed and the time to curl up with mommy or daddy. A good story also sets the tone for the night.
